Dazai was broken up over Chuuya's death. He never expected it to go down the way it did. After all, who could have predicted such an absurd trick? Such an unexpected loop hole. Such and outrageous amount of bullshit.

Dazai finally gets to talk to his old enemy, and treats him the same way as always, with his annoying remarks and jokes. However, with time Chuuya changes, but Dazai doesn't understand what happened to his old partner. After Dostoyevesky's death having Dazai nearly witnessing the death of all of his friends, he finally has an actual change in heart. Despite that, he's plagued with horrid nightmares of everyone dying and all because of him. As always he can't seem to get away from Chuuya either with him being the focal point of every nightmare and it did have an impact on him. Dazai realises he in fact holds strong feelings for the short ginger man. Naturally, of course when one side of double black changes so does the other.
