13-year-old Sophie Winfield hates music as much as she hates eating oysters. But when she finds herself looking at a portal, she experiences a paradise that she's never seen before. Later on, as time passes by, she starts to become homesick. However, she can't find the portal she entered through. She has to pass three nearly-impossible tests in order to go back home. And all of those tests are related to music.

The first test is all about finding 12 precious jewels from 12 different regions. Each one represents a month; a birthstone. But with those jewels come the potential exaggerated dangers of that month. From frostbitten cold to desert hot, swarms of mosquitoes to tornadoes of leaves, Sophie has to learn to accept her talent and use it to her utmost advantage in order to succeed the first test in her Musical Fantasy.
