It wasn't supposed to react like this. The bomb wasn't supposed to go off as it did. It was only supposed to destroy his home, he never wanted it to destroy Genesi AND Stralin. He didn't want other people to suffer for those that had wronged him.

Brian didn't want people to know, so he ran away from Genesi in hopes that he wouldn't get caught by any remaining survivors - if there were any. Eventually, dark creatures emerged from the explosion site, looking for the person who had released him.
Now that the evil's chasing him, what can he do? Just play it off and continue on his adventure and tell Anthony when he's ready? That's not an option. He can't tell anyone. Brian may be ready for everyone's expressions of betrayal, but he's not ready for the karma that's close behind.
