A few years after the war, Elizabeth, the passionate daughter of a pastor misses the rush and adrenaline of work. Serving as a nurse during the conflict, she proved herself to the world as well as to herself, allowing her to dream of a world outside of the kitchen.

When she meets a young American, looking for someone to take care of her mother back in New York, Elizabeth jumps on the occasion and packs her belongings for a trip across the ocean.

Alone on a new continent, the young lady learns all the different ways a heart can beat. Hate, friendship, treasons, love; will her confidence and strong personality be enough to make it through the city that never sleeps?
