For Carney, high school was one big party, lots of drinking, chasing girls and psychedelic drugs. He joined the Navy to see the world but spent his entire Navy stent on the beaches of Oahu Hawaii. After returning to civilian life, Carney stumbles into a great career as a private investigator, however his plan to be a father and a husband continue to elude him.

This historically accurate novel chronicles a young man's life experiences from the first time he kissed a girl in 1964 through to his retirement party in 2018. Although his dreams seemed naturally enough, Carney's experimental drug use, casual sex, and his undeniably stupid mistakes keep the life he really wants at bay.

Secondhand blood is the story of a man who, without ever marrying, and never having a child of his own, winds up surrounded by children he has fathered, in spite of his own lack of planning.
