Volume Three of the Ontogeny series.

The human world is aflame with war. Nations clash with their neighbours, while the Kelvon Empire, bulwark of the human world, stands on the brink of civil war. The plans of the enemies of mankind to destroy human civilisation, to restore their own mastery of the world, are well on the way to success.
The people of Helberion have vowed to defeat those plans, though. Peace must be restored between the various peoples of mankind so that they can combine their efforts against their true enemy. Even while her country strives to avoid conquest and defeat at the hands of their traditional enemies the Carrowmen, therefore, Princess Ardria journeys to Carrow to meet with the enemy King in an almost hopeless attempt to persuade him of the truth. All her hopes rest on the assumption that he in an unwitting dupe of the true enemy, but lurking at the back of her mind is the fear that he may be all too aware of the truth, that he may have sold out humanity for the promise of personal power. If this is true, then all that awaits her at the end of her journey through fear and danger is imprisonment and the life of a hostage to be used against her father, King Leothan.
The Brigadier would help her if he could, but he and Malone, his former batman, are far away, each having their own missions to try and ensure the survival of human civilisation. Having completed his latest task, the Brigadier must race to join her, to assist and protect her, but will he reach her before she arrives at the palace of the enemy King? And will the Princess still have a country to be Princess of by the time she arrives there? Because even if Helberion manages to defeat the all conquering armies of Carrow there is another, even deadlier threat waiting in the wings against which there may be no defence...

"Those who's eyes gleam with power Will wither and will fall, And those who only have eyes for another, Will rise above them all." "As you are well aware, we are at war," council leader Sir Ptolemus Brom announced to the twins in a meeting, only minutes after the coronation. "The public is already concerned about a joint rule, and in their minds you two are innocent children being pulled into a mess of politics; and quite frankly, you are. But we don't have time for that. We need to show them a leader." ----- Seventeen year old twin orphans, Alexandria and Kalyssa Leirin are both the queens of Amaria. It's unheard of. It's unruly. It's completely rash. Yet it works. Their mother died in childbirth, and their father was assassinated by highly skilled warriors from the rival nation of Aidana. An attack masterfully orchestrated by the Aidanian King himself. A self centered and narcissistic ruler who had lived a privileged life. As princesses, the twins had been secretly trained behind their father's, and their country's back, to kill. And now, in a time of sacrifice, war, and a touch of romance, they must use all they've learned to guide them, and to save their falling kingdom. 29 parts Complete

Kaitra has finally managed to escape from the Granziar dungeon, her companions, and her destiny and return to her home and her mountain. She is determined to forget all of Yuragwyn and live her quiet, easy life again in our world. Traugott is faced with maximum-security prison in Granziar with Calanthe and Briallen, and all the shame that comes with it. They have been put up for ransom, at the high price of Yuragwyn's total surrender. Now the whole country can stare and see that he has failed not only to strike an effective blow at Granziar but to keep the Daughter of Yuragwyn safe and with him. He fully expects to die here, the downfall of the whole country. Calanthe is still broken over her brother's death, and Briallen is still smug over Traugott's fall from Calanthe's graces. But Kaitra can't erase her true country or her true parents from her mind and finally decides to return and apologize for the way she treated Lord Cadfael and Lady Carys and maybe offer a little help to get Calanthe out of wherever she is. Like she suspected though, it isn't going to be easy to just pop in and leave again. War with Granziar is thickening, and soon the small region of Rite over the Western mountains starts to grumble. Once Lord Cadfael and Honorable Urien hear the whole story of the journey, how will they react to that and each other? Will Yuragwyn ever be able to throw off the Granzians and stay a united country?
