A fragrance lamp works by having an open flame for just two to three minutes (this makes them much safer than candles, which require a flame in order to be used!), and then it burns on its own for another half hour to forty five minutes. The purpose of even lighting a fragrance lamp for burning is so that the flame heats up a special stone inside it. That stone then continues to remain heated for another 30-45 minutes.
