"Long ago, there were people who were gifted with special abilities, such as the control over fire, air, earth, and water. No person got the same ability as another.
     These people had to split their souls with another living being to live, due to their ability being so powerful. The other being that contained the person's soul was called a spirit animal, or bond animal. At the age of thirteen you would get your spirit animal. After meeting your spirit animal, a marking of the animal would appear somewhere on their body.
     Though, the humans soon grew jealous of their power and declared war on them. Sadly the humans won, and those who were gifted with abilities were killed off.
     Some say that there are people with abilities living far away, in a land unknown to human kind, though none have seen these people and made it back alive."
     I was walking by a small park when I heard a woman telling the story of the Gifted to three young children. I used to believe those stories were just small tales to tell to children at night, but I had been proven wrong my Sophomore year of high school. I was walking to meet up with a friend of mine when I had first met my bond animal. It was pretty terrifying when I got the mark, but I got over it.

At sixteen, everyone is to meet their spirit animal. Everyone knew it, it had been that way since the very beginning. In fact, it was why some people were chosen to lead or not. Animals of feather are more pristine than others, with more abilities than any other animal. They were held at the highest stature, and were seen as most fit to lead. Animals of fur have the most heart or cunning in some cases. They are used to do physical work, such as build or fight, or own businesses. Animals of cold blood are said to have spiritual powers, such as telekinesis or telepathy. They tend to sit next to or help many people lead, and have done so for millennia. Then, there are unfortunate people who have no animal, or are animals of mite. They are seen as scum, and typically are homeless and do farm work. Eliza has grown up with people with no animal, as it ran in her family. She would be expected to have no animal too, and take whatever punishments or cruelties posed on them by the royal class. That was what she had expected and prepared for, having already dealt with Prince Henry and living with a scar. That was until, on her sixteenth birthday, the ceremony begins. And an owl lands on her shoulder. What will happen when she is thrown into the world of royalty?

The dragons have come and gone since the Pliocene epoch when Wooly Mammoths roamed with humans during the ice age. For many of the I and E generation in the Americas and parts of Europe, it was something to avoid being taken by them to their world. But many knew the stories they told, the things they saw and missed, and in this world of social media, the child coming home, reborn as a shifter. For 16-year-old Nathan that was his reality. For 11 years he's not only avoided getting grabbed but helped others avoid a similar fate. But a black dragon was watching him grabbing him only to lay low in the nearby woods, something they did to pick out who'd they take. It did that for 10 years, more than 3 times longer than usual. His actions and the amount of time he had avoided them made him a sort of celebrity in his town in the midwest. But one day that black dragon made its decision, he was to be her hatchling. When they're usually marked the child could turn to protective mode, running from home to prevent drawing attention to other children for the picking, and that's what he did, right to where they last landed. Luck, choice, a possible spell in those claws, whatever you may think doesn't matter. A black dragon never misses its mark. With agility unsurpassed by the other types they're almost impossible to avoid. But these dragons didn't breathe fire, were a threat, nor in any way the size of a 747 max. All they had that was unique from other creatures was a highly evolved brain with the intelligence of a human and a heart of platinum. Note. Some creatures don't belong to me in any way. Being trapped inside one place most of your life is suffocating. So I took it upon myself to go behind my mother's back every chance I got to leave. I never thought that one day I would be caught. Mr. Calmings is a rare species of fairy that's never been recorded in history but does exist. He possesses the gift of all energy in attacks or counter attacks.
