The theater! After a year of at Deanwood University, Rosie finally plucks up the courage to join the annual summer theater camp that puts on some of the best productions in the city. Though the play in question is a familiar one, she decides to stick with costuming, so she can watch the excitement from the shadows of backstage.

But, as a series of events drags her out of the shadows, she discovers that her little endeavor in the theater is making out to be the wildest ride of her life, and there is nothing she can do to stop it from disrupting her simple little life. Hot actors, impossible prima donnas, unpredictable directors, and the ever-present feeling of change electrify every moment Rosie spends in the theater, and she slowly begins to realize that once the theater has you, it never lets go.

Maya wants to be a famous actress. Maya also has stage fright. It's kind of redundant that she's in the drama club. She's just a stand in and stage handle because her first audition was a disaster. She could barely get out the words. She locked up and ran away. Sam has no problem being the center of attention. He nails all the scenes and monologues. He's confident and fluid. She wishes she had his confidence. Envies it, even. He's a cocky, narcissistic pretty boy. The school sees him as the perfect specimen. Maya can see through his facade as he pulls off. His so-called charms seem fake. No one is that perfect. Sam loves the spotlight, all eyes on him, the applause. It makes him want to go on, as the saying goes. Maya was someone he sees as a background actor, where she belongs. He belongs on the center stage. One date between them meant nothing. He moved on. They barely spoke unless it's in drama club. One kiss meant nothing. He always wanted to know how she kissed. He got his answer. Their drama teacher has now partnered them up as acting buddies for the next play. That was the last thing she wanted. The more time she spends with him during rehearsals, the more she sees him, his dedication, his passion. He's mesmerizing. Sam sees a spark in her when it's the two of them. Sassy as she is, there is a vulnerable side she shares. She's falling for his charm. She's falling for him. But does he feel the same way? Is he playing the charm on her to get what he wants? She has to keep it in, she can't break character.

Meet the girls at Rogerson's Dance Camp. They all are rich, goody-goody girls that have never broken one rule and don't plan on it anytime soon. They all go to private schools and are on the fast track to becoming lawyers and doctors and neurosurgeons. They're not the ugliest girls, either. Meet the boys at Langlade School District Football Camp. They are middle-class people who could care less about the rules and breaking them. The biggest chance they've got at a good career is the people who are overachievers, the ones who work too hard, and, of course, the people that play sports. They're not the ugliest boys, either. So what will happen when Ms. Rodgers insists that to jog with the girls, they need to learn some manners, so Coach McDonald suggests that they partner dance? What happens when Ms. Rodgers agrees, sets up the partners, and assigns them a specific dance that they will have to perform at the end of the summer? Will Aubrey, the goodiest of the goodies, and Landon, the biggest jerk and flirt of the football players, be able to dance together or will they decide to keep their distance? What happens when Aubrey might think she's falling in love with him? And what if Landon loves her too?
