Immortality ends in darkness.

The Nix has lived almost three hundred years. He has served the throne and watched it pass from ruler to ruler, corruption more rampant with each generation. He has carefully bided his time and spread his influence across the realm, waiting for a chance to remake the crown, the country, and eventually the world in his image, willing to kill and destroy however he must to achieve his ends. Armed with dark power and centuries of preparation, he's almost ready to strike. But one snowy night when a band of adventurers stumbles into the palace, bloody and half frozen, his long life is flipped upside down.

The adventurers are hunting down a legendary artifact that can instill absolute obedience in anyone, a hunt that almost killed The Nix decades earlier. Even more remarkable is Lily, an untrained immortal, the only other immortal he's ever known. The Nix plans to extort these people for all they're worth, but he quickly realizes killing off the last of his humanity isn't as easy as it sounds. Confronted with an undesired attachment to the adventurers and a protégée to give him purpose, he must make a choice he never thought he could: endless power or a peaceful eternity.
