When fourteen-year-old Catherine Humphrey finds herself about to be the next victim of a mass school shooting she sees her whole life flash before her eyes. Most of it is all that she imagined she'd do. She sees herself pretending she is a young adult that has found herself quite successful. She looks back on the times she wrote her acceptance speech for her academy award. Catherine sees everything she was aspiring to be. And she knows, now, that none of it will ever happen. She will not make it out alive. Her imagination was her escape from the painful reality of the world around her, but it cannot save her now.
