Diaval has been sent as an emissary to the Great Khan of RhΓ»n. 
However, when the Khan and his court find out about his affair with his daughter, Diaval is captured and thrown into the dungeon of the palace. 
Princess Hala pleads for his life and the Khan decides to give him a choice: take part in the Great Race and win to be free. Lose and he will be cast into the Pit. Refuse and the Khan will throw him in the Pit anyway.
Diaval only sees one option but he's sure he and his horse Thorben are able to cross the dreaded desert "Ocean of Fire" and finish first.
