Two girls live in Tulsa. We have Melanie: A loud girl, very funny, sweet at times but can knock you out with one hit. Then we have Alison: a shy, timid girl, can be tough, but is very sensitive and fragile. They're best friends and they have no one else to be friends with, so everyone calls them the outcasts. But everything changed when they met Ponyboy, Johnny, Dally, Darry, Sodapop, Steeve, and Two-bit. Melanie falls for the handsome Sodapop Curtis, and Alison falls for the shy Johnny.
