Xaz loves exploring the forest near her home. She's been doing it since she was a child, despite her father's grumblings about it. When she explores further than usual, she comes across something she never expected to find. A strange creature with a mottled, scale covered hide, who speaks her language. The creature, Phantom, which resembles a mythical dragon, is desperate to find a friend he had lost. But as Xaz learns more about Phantom and about his mysterious friend, Jake, she wonders if finding him would even be for the better. As they search, Xaz and Phantom quickly find themselves in the thick of a conflict long in the making, and a scheme that could spell doom for them all.
