Cystic Fibrosis. Those were the two words that seemed to define Madelyn Winters' life from the moment she was born. Hospital stays, pills, and breathing treatments were all a part of her normal. Madelyn knew that she had a life expectancy label on her, but she didn't realize just how close it was getting to her expiration date. And with her lung function at a dangerously low 35%, the search for an organ donor became frantic. Madelyn began to realize that life was coming to its end. And fast.

Breanne Adams met Madelyn on the playground of their elementary school in second grade. She didn't know that Madelyn was sick; all she knew was that the girl needed a friend to swing with. From that day forward, Breanne and Madelyn became an inseparable duo. Breanne didn't care that Madelyn had a terminal disease. She just knew that she was a one of a kind human being.

The two girls were more than best friends; they were sisters.
And they aren't gonna let CF, nor anything else, get in the way of their friendship.

Ten Things

41 parts Complete

(TH#5)"And maybe in the end, in spite of all we said, all we did, all we met, we are only thoughts that evaporate into the effervescent whirlwind of time." Cole Winters is a perfect example of high school done right; star quarterback, good-looking, popular, he has the whole package. Things couldn't possibly go wrong. He lives for the present with no certainty on the future or anything it holds. Grace Loving is terminally ill. She's been cancer-free, but it can't be gone forever. She knows it. Everybody knows it. And it's only a matter of time before she bites it. But to maximize her living expectancy, her parents bring her to a well-known doctor operating a hospital just outside of Heart, North Carolina, where she finds her new home and, ultimately, Cole Winters. It's not love at first sight. It's not even love at fourth sight. But as they're thrown together in odd and unsavory circumstances, it becomes a battle between love and the desire not to hurt or be hurt, and the realization that in life you cannot have one without the other.
