Byly to čtyři roky od chvíle, kdy opustil zemi. Nikdy by si nemyslel, že ji tak brzy navštíví. Když opouštěl loď a rodinu, kterou poslední čtyři roky měl, cítil závrať. Znovu stal na své rodné půdě, tentokrát starší a zkušenější. Svíral rukojeť tesáku, až mu bělely kotníky prstů a neotáčel se. Kdyby se otočil, nastoupil by znovu na palubu a nikdy by nenašel sílu vystoupit. Dál by se třásl hrůzou z vody a byl pirátskému kapitánovi na obtíž.

Čtyři roky, co příšery zaútočily.
Čtyři roky.

Před nimi by nevěřil, že bude umět bojovat. Nevěřil by, že se mu podaří skolit příšeru a už vůbec by nevěřil, že to přežije. Přesto seděl vyčerpaný ve středu vesnice, jako vítěz. Prsty ho pálily, ruce protestovaly proti pohybu a popáleniny pokrývaly puchýře. Ale seděl opřený o mrtvé tělo a jen ztěžka si uvědomoval pohyb kolem sebe.
