Birdie Morrison is a Tom boy, following in her dad's footsteps with her love of basketball. She firsts notices Holt for his skills on the court but soon realizes Holt isn't like everyone else.

Mrs. Lincoln, Holt's foster mom was longing for a child of her own, unable to have one herself. Now she's desperate to help the troubled boy that she's quickly come to consider her own.

Coach Mo comes together with his daughter Birdie and Mrs. Lincoln to try and save Holt from the things that haunt him.
