Mature
All young ladies, except one, get married.

A rural town in Spain during the Industrial Revolution.
Nineteen-year-old Meadow "Missy" Dovett has always been told she "lacked something" and "everything passed her by". Since her mother was declared missing, she's been told she "failed in all her duties"--that was a new one.

Meadow lives with her opium-addicted father and her younger brother in an old family house, where almost all the furniture has been pawned. She can't afford any school, and she's too sickly to work at the factory. She's not gracious to boys her age. She prefers that new piece of devilry called photography to cooking and sewing.

The maid is the only one who wonders what can be done with Meadow--that's no longer a concern for her father, and that shouldn't be one for her younger brother.

When creepy paranormal activity occurs around Meadow and she's visited by a queer nymph from the woods, she decides to take action--only to unveil secrets each more terrible than the last. What Meadow needs to claim in order to heal might not just be a social life.
