Book one of the Fairchildren of Saint Giles: Maisie Fairchild and her sisters grew up at The Elms--raised by a cadre of strong and independent women including two respectable widows, a well-liked spinster and a scandalous former opera-singer. Maisie Fairchild, the oldest of the sisters, is fast approaching spinsterhood. She is unbothered by her lack of "prospects," because Maisie's goal is to follow in the footsteps of Miss Farrows; she wants to remain single and make an independent living as a music instructor. Thomas Crawely is left with nowhere to go but a crumbling estate in an unheard-of fishing village when his brother dies, leaving him with a mountain of debt. Marriage is the furthest thing from his mind when he meets Miss Fairchild, but from the time of their uncomfortable first meeting, Crawley cannot stop thinking about her.. Author's Note: I wrote this book a few years ago... taking it out again so I can polish it up. I plan to post updates once a week on Friday or Saturday.
