Parents can get very protective at times and that's how Ruelle's were. After losing three children it's understandable how sheltering they were. In any case Ruelle's health came first as his parents, Samantha and Harrison, were told by doctors that he wasn't expected to live long as he was premature.
Though he survived Samantha and Harrison couldn't help but keep the feeling that they could've lost him. Due to this they made sure he ate healthy things and only healthy things, so Ruelle grew up to crave unhealthy food. He heard about it from his friends and read about it in books yet even when he was eighteen and lived alone he still couldn't step into a burger place.
Enzo was born into poverty, junk food was all he knew, he had five siblings and he was the youngest. His mum was never home working day in and day out trying to provide for her children, his dad was deaf so as with all his siblings he had learned sign language. His dad didn't have a stable job and they were lucky to just about make it through the month. When he met Ruelle he couldn't help but not believe how sheltered he had been, it was an unknown concept to Enzo.
