The Weight of Grief by Kale_Kabbage

It's almost funny. How grief sneaks up on you. One second, you're fine; you're coping well and then it hits you like a bullet, tearing right through your heart, almost killing you on the spot. Grief is a monster that lies dormant in the darkest quarters of your mind, growing stronger and stronger until you can't fight anymore. Until you can't breathe. Peter was fractured. The monster having grown too big, and without any support left to hold him up, the world of drugs dug its claws into him. And it was slowly killing him, like a sickly sweet poison that dulled the pain while quietly feeding on his soul. He was powerless to stop it. He was too tired to stop it. Tony was doing pretty good. Aside from having died, he was doing pretty good. Resurrected from the dead, check. Thanos dead, check. Wife and daughter thriving, check. He'd never expected to get his life back, that was for sure. He was thankful for the second chance. Unfortunately, Tony was quick to discover that the kid had all but lost his own life. It felt like a knife slowly twisting into his chest every time he saw the kid: in agony. Now Tony wasn't exactly the poster-child for a good emotional support figure, but he wasn't about to sit back and let this continue. No matter how hard the kid fought him, no matter how much resistance he was met with, Tony would help the kid. Still, he couldn't help the fear that laced his blood. Tony couldn't help but question whether he would be able to save Peter from the weight of grief. **NO Starker** Triggers Warnings: Substance Use/Abuse Depressive and/or Suicidal Thoughts/Mentions Rape Threats/Mentions Descriptive Blood/Minimal Gore Some Self-Harm Coarse Language Mental Illness (various) This is a heavier story, so please don't read if you're not comfortable with any of the above triggers. "So, you save the world?" I looked up and down the spandex clad boy in front of me. Even under the mask I could see his worry. "Well, I do what I can.." He sheepishly put a hand behind his head. "What else would I do with superpowers?" "Rob a bank, kill the president, take over the universe. There are LOTS of options." He laughed slightly, stuffing the last of my things gently into the bag and handing it to me. "Touche. But I mean, good things. Like good people do cause I'm a food person, GOOD person, I ment good. Not food, though it's not a bad thing to like food, not in the slightest. Infact, I could definatly go for some Chinese food about now, and a foot to stick in my own mouth.." I snorted, taking the bag out of his hands. "And I'm supposed to know that your good.. but I guess with a name like the spider boy you have to have something going for you." He turned, walking up the alley wall and squatted down, his bug eyes slightly offended. "Ouch. Its Spider Man." now it was my turn to laugh. "You dont look like much of a man to me, but fine. The Spider-Man, happy?" I couldn't tell, but I could swear he was smiling under that web shrouded mask. He lifted a hand, shooting a sting of webbing from his wrist and pulling himself seamlessly up to the buildings top. I looked up, head craned to see him as he looked down at me. He cupped his hands around his mouth for just a moment before he called, "Very!" And ran off into the night sky above me. ******* After Homcoming before Infinity War, ps peter never liked MJ Contains Explicit content, sexual abuse, strong language, and death I own no characters of the Marvel Cinimatic Universe nor any rights to their content. {this book is currently going through an extensive editing process. writing styles may not line up between chapters and some plot points may not match up until book is fully edited. edited chapters will be marked with a checkmark} You never believe something can happen to you until it does. Your entire life gets turned upside down, uprooting you from everything you thought you knew and turning you into something completely different. Your world seems to take a turn for the worst, and the things you once enjoyed take a backseat to wallowing in self pity and wading knee-deep in sadness. That's how it was when my brother died. Only a year ago, everything I knew changed for good. Brand new town, brand new people, brand new life to live. Thankfully friends are easy to come by, but it turns out I wouldn't be lucky enough to keep my normal life. One fateful night and two chance encounters would change everything for me. A fresh start in New York turned out to be far more than that; it was a second chance at life itself. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TOP RANKINGS: #70 in science #519 in superhero
