In the land of Raja, having a unique talent – a Gift – is a crime. While King Lernon is killing off the Gifted, Charlaina is saving them. Gifted with perfect instincts, Charlaina is able to do anything without thinking, which she relies on. She is not prepared to meet Cole, who is Gifted with killing. He confuses her; her Gift deems useless around him. She is not prepared to discover a secret about the Royal kingdom. She is not prepared to jeopardize everything she has ever worked for, and just about everyone she has ever loved. For the first time in her life, Charlaina is lost on what do to and how to do it.
