Exile: The Book of Ever by JamesCormier

Centuries after the Fall, the United States has been wiped away. The crumbling remains of the great American empire are home now only to savage, lawless tribes and packs of ravening Damned-the twisted children of the apocalypse. Most of those few who survived humanity's destruction spend their short lives in a violent struggle for survival. But some light still flickers in the darkness: the Blessed of Bountiful live in seclusion, relying on walls both physical and spiritual to protect them from the Desolation that their world has become. Among them are the Saints, those few men and women born with superhuman abilities that the Blessed see as gifts from God. The violent apostate tribes of the Northeast Kingdom have always been a danger, but up until recently its small size and the vigilance of its people have made Bountiful an unappealing target. As attacks on the community grow harsher and more frequent, however, even the steadfast Blessed are forced to start preparing for the worst. With her home's very existence threatened, seventeen year old Ever Oaks, a Saint with the power to heal, is forced to make a difficult choice, one that may come to define her people's future... Exile was a semi-finalist in Mark Lawrence's Great Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off (#SPFBO). Fantasy Faction said it was "extremely cool," and Bookish Lifestyle called it "more than just a story, a journey and an experience." When I'm asked about it, I often describe it as "X-Men meets The Walking Dead." In addition to reading it here for free, you can buy Exile in e-book or paperback on Amazon.com.
Rise of the Dead | I by Lup1ne
46 parts Complete Mature
Ten years after the battle at Single Oak, the four groups of Oregon are still reeling from its after effects. Territory lines were drawn and stories have been told, those who were heroes once are legends now. In order to avoid new conflicts, solstice gatherings between the groups' leaders were organized-but will they be enough? *** Phoenix has grown up only ever knowing two things. One, her group and fathers are the saviors of Oregon. Two, The Reaper's are not to be trusted. So when a mysterious stranger rescues her after a hunting trip gone wrong turns out to be none other than her mortal enemy she begins to wonder, are they all as bad as they seem? The death of Stephan has begun to deteriorate The Reaper's from the inside out. Infighting over who should be their next leader has created countless seasons of lacking supplies and structure. A lack of prey follows a famine. Strong leadership is in order and although Gerald can provide it, debate and rumors are spread about his chosen companion-Aleu, Stephan's once respected apprentice, now glued to his side in a relationship they never wanted-with no say in the matter. The only person who The Reaper's can put their hope into is Hawk, their new general, a powerful man willing to do anything to keep his group thriving. Hawk is torn between keeping his group safe and his own ambition, Aleu is tortured with a constricting life they hate and Phoenix wonders if she can truly trust her new acquaintances. Now the three must make a decision. Will pushing aside the past and working together to make peace be worth turning their backs on their groups or is blood the only cure for the misdeeds of the past? _____________________ Story rating: 17+ Content warnings: Childhood trauma, subtext of grooming, strong language, violence and gore This can hypothetically be read as a stand alone but it's recommended to read the original series first.
Fragmented Morality by UnlikelyKings
12 parts Ongoing Mature
When the world collapses around you and everything that was 'normal' decays, discerning reality is no longer an innate process, but rather a distorted sense of one's self. Reality was now something created on the basis of an individual's morality and a group's ability to coexist. However, when this was the way of living before the apocalypse, when this was how Christopher Peletier had to survive every day of his life- surviving based entirely on his step-fathers fragmented morality, what changed? What made now different from before? The answer is nothing. The world was exactly the same, and eighteen-year-old Chris had a plan. For his family, he separates himself from the truth. He knows he is more than what he was told, he knows what is, will not be forever. He knows he is strong enough to keep his loved ones safe, too. If he could just endure a little more so that, when the time came, he could take the opportunity granted to him to free himself, his mother, and his sister from their constraints. At the first chance he got, he was going to live by first destroying the part of his life that made his family quiet and miserable. That way nobody would ever be able to dictate the way he, or the ones he cared about, lived their lives. - This is just a story I'm writing alongside my main one when I am in the mood. This means there is nothing saying when it will be updated, but I do have plans for it just like my other one!

*The picture of fetus Louis on the book cover is supposed to be Larry's son Cole. There is not two Louis's in this story. Thank you so much to @Jake_Scott16 for the amazing book cover!* *This story will take place [roughly] within The Walking Dead's zombie-filled universe, with some differences. My fiction will not have anything to do with the story-line of the t.v. show or the comics; it will run parallel at times but Michonne, Rick, Daryl, Glenn, Carol, Maggie etc etc will not exist in my story.* **** "How did this happen? Right now my biggest concern is supposed to be if I want cheese on my hamburger or not. Not if I'm going to become a hamburger." I whispered to Chandler, he grabbed my hand and kissed the back of it "Don't worry Cole; we'll get through this, we just have to be smart". The conversation got cut off as the slowly shuffling feet finally came into view; I grabbed Fenris's and Shylo's muzzles with my hands to keep from them from barking or growling and giving away out hiding spot. Chandler nudged me with a slim Jim meat-stick in his hand "Four legs are faster than two" he whispered in my ear. Sighing to myself and kissing both my dogs on the nose, Chandler threw and meat stick away from us "Fetch" I whispered and the dogs crawled out to get the tasty treat. As they drew the walkers away from us, Chandler and I scrambled out from under the car and ran in the opposite in the opposite direction. Chandler pulled out his knife and dug it into the skull of the stray walker that was in front of us, as he did so I could hear my dogs start to snarl and growl at the walkers that were closing in on them. Sticking my fingers in my mouth and letting out a high pitched whistle, my dogs weaved between the walkers and avoided outstretched hands as they joined Chandler and I as we fled into the hills.
