Vincent Norwood is accused of murder and sent to an asylum where he is tormented by vivid nightmares as well as one of the doctors. Both of them are infected by a unknown "parasite" affecting them in different ways both mentally and physically, in the case of Vincent he's more physically affected while the doctor is more mentally affected. While Vincent's body is very slowly being destroyed by it.
