"Adam." she calls, but he doesn't turn, only walks away from her more.
She calls him again, walks towards him and turns him around, questioningly looking into his round eyes.
But there's something there. Something she hasn't seen before in the past few weeks they have been together, something that mirrors what she feels deep inside.
She pulls the arm that he used to wrap around her when she cried, or when there was danger, and turns him to face her.
"I'm fine, it's nothing." he says. " You only have to put up with me one more night before you become queen and then we'll never see each other again."
"Is that a bad thing?" she asks. "Because you sound quite annoyed." And she crosses her arms across her chest.
He scoffs. "Annoyed?"
She raises her eyebrows at him. 'What is he saying? And why now?The day before everything goes the way HE wants? ' she thinks.
"I'm not annoyed at you, princess. I'm annoyed at the world and the way it works. Why make our paths cross, allow us spend all this time together, just to make me give you away to the worst person in the whole world?!"
She looks up at him, with that innocent look that takes his breath away each time. Just standing there looking at him, making his heart break even more.
"All this time it never really mattered what happened to you in the end." he says.
"Yes, because I was always JUST your bargaining chip." she yells.
Adam throws his hands up in surrender and clenches up those skilled fists.
"You were NEVER just my bargaining chip, princess." She had never heard him speaking so softly. "You were..." he doesn't finish.
"What?!" she demands and walks up to him, her face inches from his. "What am I, other than some damsel in distress that you were forced to rescue?"
Adams eyes were dangerous in that moment, and Marina was searching for something.
"I-- " he never finishes his sentence.
