Tala, a young woman born into an isolated tribe in the Phillippines, yearns to break free from the strict rules of her "mermaid" life. After struggling to complete the rituals and traditions she was raised to believe, she meets a Spanish sailor. Their love affair is quickly uncovered and she finds herself in the outside world where her emotions and newfound knowledge will challenge her to make a hard decision - stay or leave the tribe.
