Dakota Quinn is not excited when her parents tell her they will be adopting a foster child named Lacey - permanently. Suddenly Dakota is no longer the only child that she has been for the past 16 years. It seems that this new "sister" is taking over every part of Dakota's life and Dakota wants nothing more than for Lacey to get out of it. But when hardship hits and everything that Dakota and Lacey know as "family" is about to change, the two girls realize there is only one thing constant in their life - each other.
