By late 1942, the German Reich had pushed back Soviet forces out of the Ukraine, Belarus, and Baltics. The Wehrmacht began it's ambitious crawl towards Moscow when Hitler caught his eye on another target. Stalingrad, the city named after the leader of the Russian people. If Germany could bring this city to it's knees, the Soviet people's morale would take a heavy blow and might even lead to a peace deal to end the war in the Eastern Front.
