That sweet smell is all that gives a reason to minotaurus continue living miserable life. It gives him hope
Hope that maybe one day he will leave this depressing labyrinth.
Hope that maybe the love of his life would tolerate him and his unnatural appearance.
Hope that maybe humans would stop seeing him as a threat and leave him in peace as he did nothing wrong to disturb them .
Hope that he could have a family.

A Hades/Persephone retelling. How often do you catch yourself wondering how somebody's touch would feel? How soft their hands would be as they caressed your entire form, how sweet their lips would taste when they descended down to yours, how diabolic the touch would become as the hands would drift lower and lower? Persephone often wondered the same thing. [...] She saw the nymph playfully push the satyr down on the soft grass before straddling him, the sheer fabric of her garment highlighting her graceful movements. She heard her giggling and the satyr's amused growls and her green eyes widened when she saw the satyr's hand wander underneath the nymph's skirt. Perhaps, she should have left the moment she realised what she had stumbled upon. Perhaps, she should have return to her field of lilies and picked some flowers for her mother, Demeter. She snapped her head up to meet his eyes, searching for any sign he wanted to take his words back, but there was no remorse. And just like that, she fell ever so slightly more in love with him. "Your queen?" she asked, she had to be sure. Strangely the word had slid off her tongue gracefully as if it had belonged there. "Yes, become my queen," he told her once again, taking back the step she had taken. "Rule besides me as the goddess of spring and the Underworld."
