A Slave at Heart

Six years ago, I left my heart with a man who could never return my love. I left my heart with a man whose whole world was dependent on his material possessions and the money in his bank account. Six years ago, my soul and truth poured themselves out onto his office floor, only for him to reject me once more. Six years ago, I promised myself that I would leave him behind and forget about him. Six years later, my five-year-old twins remind me of him every day. The children he rejected and claimed weren't his act like and look like him. Yet, I never let my mind fall on the thought of him. I had stayed true to my promise; my vow. However, fate always liked to mix things up and remind people that they didn't control anything.
