Temperance Watterson was an outcast. More interested in science documentaries than Disney movies, and felt more comfortable in a lab coat than a designer shirt and matching jeans. So when her genius scientist parents up and moved them to Japan, and enrolled her in the most prestigious school for gifted and intelligent kids form around the world, she decided that she wasn't going to go through the next 4 years of her life alone.
So, she decides to build herself a friend, despite the law saying that it was forbidden. Being a genius, she is able to do just that, but she ends up doing too good of a job on her new best friend...
*Hi! OK, so this is a short story that I wrote for an assignment in the 8th grade, and I still consider it one of my best works, even now. It's sent in the distant future, and the other characters mentioned (the three girls you meet later) were born from american families IN Japan, so even though they aren't completely Asian or Japanese, they grew up in the culture, so they consider themselves one. Just wanted to clarify that. Hope you enjoy! Oh, and the characters and the names of them were not my creation, they were my friends. The description of Temperance and Ali were her idea as well, but everything else in the story was my own creation from my imagination. Hope you enjoy!*

So you went home feeling awful, but your little sister made you feel better. You decide not to listen to the radio for crime, but after a few days you could not help yourself and tune in. To soon go into action after discovering a gang fight was about to go down, where innocents could get hurt. But little to your knowledge, there was already a hero group in the city. When they realized what had happened, the twins' parents immediately put them up for adoption, so neither one knew of the other. 12 years later Skylar is constantly failing all her classes, and Jake is getting bullied because he is so much weaker than other kids. Before the fall of Earth humanity built a great colony ship, ten thousand of the colonist left Earth for a hundred year journey to Gillespie. They came from all over the Earth leaving a planet knowing they would never see another in their lifetime. The Ark is a rotating cylinder the size of a large island with its own train system. It's divided into three main sections, the city, the framlands, and the Lowers. The people are divided into three groups as well, Uppers, Middles and Lowers. Uppers are made of elite scientist, Astro-crops, bureaucrats they made up about 3% of the population. The Middles are are the farmers, the guard, teachers, doctors, the food processors, clothes makers and of course the mechanical maintenance workers. They make-up the 97% of the 10,000 counted citizens. The lowers are criminals and children born to un-paired parents. They live separated from the middles and Upper. In lowers you work in water reclamation or in one of the fish farms that supply protein to the ship. In the year 2149 Dylan De Rovia is trying to wrap her head around the idea that in two year's she'll be paired. That they call marriage on the Ark. Pairing is good most who are paired do end-up staying together because while genetics play good part in determining a match so does personality. Some people choose to use spend this time having a good time with as many partners as possible. Dylan however, vowed that she would never fall in love with anyone before pairing. The universe had other plans however, when Dylan learns that she'll pair with an Upper named Kyive Sinclar life gets more complicated than ever.
