After a terrible car crash resulting in the death of their parents, 17 year olds Dipper and Mabel Pines are sent back to Gravity Falls to live with their Grunkles. Mabel now hates Dipper, and blames him for the crash, since they were only out getting him his anxiety medication. The Grunkles don't fully agree with Mabels logic, but are still distant with Dipper, for they think he's a freak because of his anxiety. And so in the one place he felt he could truly call home, Dipper was now alone and hated by the "family" that once loved him. One night, Dipper overhears the family talking about how useless he is and, doing the only thing he knows, he runs. Karolina had always been a little tougher than everyone else. She was a force to be reckoned with, no doubt about it. But here's the thing-they don't tell you how hard it is when you want out. When you want something more, something different. Like, say, a life that doesn't involve demons and salt lines and always looking over your shoulder. Like a life at Stanford, where the biggest dangers are midterms and forgetting to set your alarm. But walking away from the only life you've ever known? Yeah, that's one thing. Walking away from him? From the guy who's your whole heart, the one you've fought beside, laughed with, loved? That's something else entirely. And then there's the kicker-because of course there's a kicker: she dreams about him. She dreams about him and his brother (her best friend), showing up at her new life, dragging her back into the world she thought she left behind.
