Book 1: At the Edge of Misery

Cristine Daya Gerrard, a young residency doctor in the apocalypse must mend the pieces with her broken and estranged family, while fighting for her place in a community that doesn't accept her. One man in particular does his best to make sure that she leaves the Ranch, but Cristine isn't someone who goes out without putting up a fight. She finds a way to make herself irreplaceable for Broke Jaw Ranch, so that she remains safe and alive from the threats not only outside, but inside the supposedly safe walls.

WARNING: Mature and triggering themes will be present in this story. Racism, misogyny, violence, abuse and the like. This is The Walking Dead universe, so that's to be expected. So if you're easily triggered, don't read! I won't be placing many trigger warnings in my chapters. I only own my original characters and the non-canon plots of this story.

First half of the story takes place shortly after the start of the apocalypse.

Fear The Walking Dead S8 | Troy Otto x Cristine Gerard (OC) Troy was dead-murdered. Cristine had clung to a flimsy thread of her reality through her connection with the ones she was returning to- her current small family unit, her grounding source in an otherwise chaotic existence. Yet, here Troy was, defying the narrative of her fractured reality. Cristine's heart pumped hard, and conflicting emotions drowned her senses. She had endured years of solitude, crafting a facade of resilience, and now, faced with his supposed face, her mind rejected the implausible truth. "This isn't real," Cristine blurted out, her voice laced with desperate denial. The fragility of her mental state, often masked by a stoic survivor persona she had unveiled in full, unraveled in the face of this impossible. "You're not real. "Attempting to escape, Cristine recoiled, trying to distance herself from the phantom holding her captive that defied the logic of her grief-stricken existence. "You're dead." Sheer panic gripped her, an overwhelming surge of fear that clawed at the edges of her consciousness. The very fabric of reality seemed to unravel, and as if caught in a relentless undertow, Cristine struggled against the tide. She suddenly kicked her feet, startling Troy as if trying to dispel an illusion. Breathing became a precious commodity, the air growing thin as panic tightened its grip around her throat. Cristine gasped for air, her chest constricting in the throes of a panic attack. Darkness threatened to engulf her, both in and out.

Book 2: Children of Violence Cristine her heart thumped. She could hear blood passing through her ears - thump, thump, thump-and looking down saw her red coated chest moving up and down. She even tasted textured meat that was never meant to be chewed on by a human. She noticed how her dirty hands shook around her upper legs and inhaled. Her vision became blurry when she looked at the calm Troy. Suddenly, she was hot and sweaty, so hot and sweaty that she wanted to run. But as soon as she tried to stand it left her body unsteady. The trembling traveled down into her legs and hips, leaving her shaky. She felt weak, as if everything just drained out of her. Yet, her heart seemed to pound even faster, even harder. She tried taking a deep breath to calm herself, but her inhales were sharp and shallow. Her vision went darker and narrow again, like a kaleidoscope. "Breathe," Troy calmly said. "You did good." He earnestly complimented. Fear the Walking Dead Pre-Season 3 | Troy Otto x OC Recommended read before starting this book: At the Edge of Misery
