CAPTAIN MARVEL Are we alone in the universe? That question has been asked numerous times in human history. People have often looked up into the night sky and wondered if there is intelligent life on other planets. With an estimated two trillion galaxies, each with billions of stars and planets, it seems like a possibility. The cosmos is so vast that countless alien civilizations could exist. Set during the decade of the nineteen nineties, this is a Generation X version of the Captain Marvel story. Considered the best pilot in the world, Carol Danvers is ready to push the envelope. Her boldness is exactly what NASA needs in order for America to keep exploring the stars. Little does she know that the adventure of a lifetime is waiting for her. The flight of the USS Excelsior was a success as well as a failure. While it confirmed the existence of intelligent alien life in the cosmos, the destruction of the shuttle itself was a setback. One that left the American government wondering if space travel had a viable future. In order to move forward, they needed a successful mission. Construction of the USS Pegasus was completed early in 1995 with the hopes of sending an astronaut into space that year. Who would they send? It was an ambitious goal. Many eyebrows were raised when NASA announced that the Pegasus would travel past Neptune into another solar system. An even greater controversy erupted when Carol Danvers was chosen to pilot the craft. Could a woman successfully pilot the first solo mission into deep space? Was she really up to the challenge? To some it was one small step ahead for women, while others considered it one giant leap for woman-kind.
