Conrad Brighton, the only son of the Duke of Northumberland, has returned to London after seven long years on the tail of a traitor in France. The only reason he has returned is because his dear friend James, Earl of Winchester, has to return to England to claim his title and secure a bride. But he is now in the same predicament, what with his mother pressurizing him to take a wife. Connie adores his Ma enough to start the search for a suitable female, albeit very reluctantly. But never in his wildest imagination had he expected to meet her. Elizabeth North, daughter of Baron Middleton, at twenty five years of age, has no need for a husband. The only man who captured her heart, damaged it beyond repair, and she does not wish to be that vulnerable ever again. She enjoys living with her Aunt Cleopatra, free to do as she pleases while her parents tour the world, sending her the odd-gift once a year. But her real joy is working as a spy for Lady M, or ‘The Matron’. But when an accident makes her come face to face with the man who has haunted her dreams for the past seven years, will she choose love? Or her freedom? Or can she have both?
