"Now what? I whispered in her ears. She pointed towards a long tree beside the house. I peered closer and realized there were small wooden steps on it. "Do you often play bandit that you actually built your escape ladder?" "Maybe, maybe not" she answered vaguely inching towards the edge. So like the sensible person I am, I immediately called dibs on being her assistant pirate. ll ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ ⵈ Leah Avery Woods, just your usual doubtful teenager with the brightest smile, yet the cloudiest mind. Though her misfortunes should've been overdue long ago, reality was quite the different. The struggle of carrying a haunting past and taunting memories only seemed to weigh her down. When it seemed like she'd spent her whole life with friends who simply didn't care and a Dad who she barely spoke to, change came in the form of her very beautiful and oddly intimidating grandma; who asked a simple question which may have changed her whole life. "Leah, want to go on a vacation?" Thus the tale of a young girl began, who found answers in a place she never would've thought she would. "I just realised something." I say, breaking the long silence from the journey. "I'm not gonna be too sad if we don't end up finding her." I speak looking straight ahead as I drive down the road, a million thoughts running through my head. I continue, "Maybe cause to travel is better than to arrive. It's actually what has happened along the way that counts; the tears, the falls and the friendship. It's about the journey and not the destination. And I know she'd think the same. So, I guess, we just gotta trust that the future is gonna work itself out like it's supposed to." I finish off and the other two don't say anything. I glance towards them to see them watch me with apprehension. We all fall silent once again as the trees pass by us, unable to stop thinking about that one silly, reckless knobhead. Friendships are nice that way, just a bit complicated
