Because of his destiny he has given up almost everyone he holds dear to him to ensure that Albion is created. And whilst seeing Arthur succeed is a reward in and of itself, all that Merlin has gone through to get Arthur on the throne of Camelot is starting to catch up with him.

Merthur AU (Set around early season 4) Arthur Pendragon is the new king of Camelot having assumed the throne after his father's death at the hands of his sister, Morgana. Desperate to find him before he finds her. When her search leads her towards Ealdor, she's surprised to find Arthur there, and with a scrawny peasant boy no less.
