A golden snake. . .
A red fox. . .
A silver angel.

Circa 1800, London:

Orphan Miss Angelina Waters has a private fortune from her mother's side few know about, kept secret due to it being amassed by mercantile, a way to financial gain looked down on by the gentry. Her paternal grandfather is the Duke of Bainbridge - and his heir, Marcus Laramie, is one of the few who know of it.

Between his unbridled passion for her, his desperation for money, and his new role as her guardian, those in his close circle start to suspect he keeps her trapped at the manor with the intention to force her to wed.

One of those friends is Captain Peregrin Durham. Invited to party in the country with his old friends, he discovers the extraordinary creature dodging his friend's advances and possessive nature. Just what can be done. . .

And so the Fox plots to the snatch the Angel from the Snake's den - but as a fox's wily nature goes, the real question is: is he a rescuer. . .or a thief?
