Eric has been bored lately.  He used to be so full of enthusiasm for his career as a software engineer.   Lately though, he feels like his life is just one endless rerun of an old TV show.  That is until he has some trouble with a bug in a program he was working on a patch for.  The previous developer left a comment in a function that doesn't seem to be called anywhere in the code.  It contains a web link.  Curious, Eric pastes the link into his browser only to get a "page not found" error.  The next morning when Eric comes into work he finds his computer is running an entirely different operating system.  Raven OS.  Everything seems a bit disorganized and out of place.  But there's more to this Operating System than meets his spectacles.

Alex Stambler and his friends are hanging out at his house while his parents are on vacation. Everything seems to be fine until a huge wave of blue light swarms through the house, knocking everyone out cold. When they wake up, everything around them seems to be normal. But little do they know that everything isn't as what it seems, as they start to realize that they have traveled to another dimension where everyone on Earth has vanished. Now it's a race against time as they must find a way to get back to their own dimension before the multiverse tries to fix the titled "Isolation Paradox" by erasing each and every one of them, one-by-one. This brand new version of the original now has more chapters and changes a lot of flaws from the original story. With brand new development with the characters, lots of more dangers that they'll face, and a realistic feel to the story. Also in this version is deleted scenes!

Five co-workers and a guide struggle with a creature, a live relic from the past and from another dimensional plane. The creature is simultaneously lizard and birdlike, while also having anthropoidic characteristics. Once upon a time, this alien race made contact with a lost human Civilization in the region. The two races initially made an alliance, but the greed of some of the humans caused a war to erupt. The discovery and cursory inspection of the cave by one of the characters results in an impromptu, amateur tour. During the journey through the cave one of the co-workers, through a combination of stubbornness, curiosity and willfulness, becomes separated. He stumbles upon a cache of interesting artifacts inside of an oddly inhuman room with alien technology. It is in these confines where he unlocks the being whose last memories of human interaction are still freshly stinging its memory. The group grapples through the tenuous caves trying to escape the creature's vengeful wrath. The ensuing mad flight from the cave to relative safety results in a battle for survival.

But that's the least of Hoseok's problems. While on the Moon, he discovers something. Something that humanity could never see even in their worst nightmares. Will Hoseok survive and make it home, or will be succumb to the same fate as the rest of his crew? Rated M for swearing and some gore/violence, but nothing extreme. No sexual content. Suitable for a 16+ audience but marked mature just in case. Inspired by Lovecraftian horror. During the filming of "Star Trek: The Next Generation", there would frequently come times when the story called for the characters (and in the early days, it was often that bane of Trekkies everywhere, Wesley Crusher, the Platonic Ideal of Dork) to fix some far-future technical problem. Which means said characters had to employ far-future tech. Which by definition hasn't been invented yet. What happened over the course of the series was that they engaged a couple of people to be in charge of continuity and technology, and the script writers would insert into the scripts, "[technobabble here]", leaving the staff TechGeek to insert the proper futuristic-sounding tech gibberish. You know: Stuff that sounds realistically scientific, but is really just verbal handwaving. "Tachyon fields"; "Inertial dampers"; and so on. Welcome to my non-fictional, non-Star Trek, highly-idiosyncratic take on tech, tech-related topics, and sometimes random stuff that's just obliquely related to tech that was triggered by me reading or hearing or seeing something that happened to drift through the wide-open transom of my brain and get stuck there. Some of the items you will see here are funny, some I hope are thought-provoking, some could probably be filed under the hashtag of #DougRant, filtered through what my life-partner calls my "weird perspective". If you enjoy reading them, then they will have served their purpose. So read on and, hopefully, enjoy!
