August Barns is new at school in September. August is new so she will get every chance to meet new people. Amber Sumpter always thought of August as her best friend. The people that August meet know Amber. Amber was known, just not in a good and normal way. Every chance August can get to hang with her new friends, she does. August will try her hardest to stay away from Amber. She even made a choice of picking and bulling Amber with her new friends if that meant she would stay away. Amber becomes very sickly. Amber blames her sickness on all the teasing and bullying from the group of friends, even her best friend August. Amber needs her revenge to feel better, even if it means August will never escape.

The main character fell for a popular boy in their high school. For multiple months, the main character has been hiding themselves from this boy, Tal, because they've been scared of what Tal may think of them. After a while of waiting and hiding, Tal finally notices the main character and automatically falls in love with them; they had love at first sight. Slowly this major change affected the main character, their everyday life, and experiences they haven't had before. Their friends leave them and the main character is left with Tal and a few of his friends. The main character doesn't notice all of the changes they have had, and is left alone after something big happens to Tal.
