1758, stato di Brhiebrookye, mare di Cowel, isola di Podor, comune di Lynn. La Killer Queen approda sulle coste della cittadina per riscuotere la solita, "piccola" somma. Con loro vi è anche il -quasi- dodicenne Frederick Bulsara, il quale farà subito amicizia con il piccolo Roger Taylor.
Per una serie di sfortunati eventi, i due si ritroveranno a vivere disavventure nel corso degli anni, finché non vedranno mettersi sulla loro strada un riccio fin troppo intelligente e sarcastico e il suo silenzioso e giovane amico.
