Michael has finally been defeated, wiped from the face of the earth, the burnt stain of his wings the only reminder of him left in the world. But as they're all celebrating, Dean Winchester can't help but notice Castiel isn't participating in the festivities, instead staring at the ground, a vacant look in his eyes that Dean had seen too much since they'd returned Jack Kline from heaven. The hunter decides to talk to his friend, and try to coax him out of this darkness the angel can't seem to stop falling down. And maybe... maybe take advantage of the little peace they have? Maybe try to force out the three little words always tripping along his tongue? *Spoilers for season 14* *Alternate Ending to season 14* *Characters belong to SUPERNATURAL and the CW, not to me. However the plot is mine*

written for the 2k18 DeanCasMiniBang Challenge. Immediately set after 13x05. The Winchesters just received the most unexpected of the calls and now their life is on the verge of undergoing another, perhaps just as radical change. After losing his mother and his best friend, Dean found himself in a very dark place, unable to share Sam's stubborn hope that Mary might be alive and refusing to mourn Castiel. He's been stuck between trying to cope with their losses, with the aid of unhealthy amounts of alcohol, and being unable to hold back his anger issues, of which Sam and Jack have become the unlucky main targets. The reunion with the angel, while, on one hand, shines a fresh ray of hope on the boys' path, on the other puts a spotlight on the mistakes made in the previous weeks and brings up issues that have been ignored and avoided for too long. Cas is determined to reconnect with Jack and try to fix the relationship between Dean and the nephilim, together with helping his best friend to heal. This assuming that he can get through the older hunter first. Because getting Dean Winchester to talk about his feelings can turn out to be as hard as stopping the umpteenth apocalypse. Could a possible, spooky-looking case offer the chance to break the impasse?
