“There was a legend,” Harry says. “A legend my father would tell me before he put me to bed at night. It told of the five kingdoms when they had just been built; when we had learned how to control whatever element represented our empire.
“There was a cruel witch, one who had been around for many millennia and controlled the elements herself. She was powerful and all those who despised her perished. Finally, the five founders knew there had been enough of her evil and abusing ways. They created a way to strip her of her power and leave her defenseless.
“She became angry and tried to gain her power again. And she did, though the kings knew nothing of it. It threw them into a terrible war, that in which many died. The witch seized their kingdoms, pillaging and many villagers lost their lives—”
