A potter struggles to create beauty in a world of darkness, and his daughter tries to understand why. Sometimes, it not enough to just survive, and other times, survival is all there is. More than once in college, I had to write a paper on Nietzsche. And every time, I found myself responding to his works not with an academic paper, but with a story. This was an actual paper that I turned into a (thankfully) very understanding professor. It is a response to Nietzsche's "Twilight of the Idols". This story can also be found in my short story collection, "The Origins of Writing".
