I stared in horror as the man stumbled backward. Blood gushed from cuts all over him. He blinked at me and raised an arm feebly. Backing away, I pressed my back against the wall. His eyes closed and he fell to the ground with a thump. The dark figure left the alley as silently as they had came. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a group of angry citizens barreling toward me. Well, that's just great.

Planting danger doesn't happen overnight. It creeps up on you, sneaks up on you. Invisible. But of course, it's too late when you finally figure it out. By the time you see that something's wrong, you've got a whole forest. And of course Jaelyn has to get herself into this mess. Of course her forest of danger is so big that she's trapped. Everything happens to the girl who's not fully human.
