Mara Schafer is aware her life is far from perfect, but she didn't really think she minded all that much. She's used to her father's work keeping him away, the constant moves, the new schools every 6 months or so. Her books take her as far away as she needs them to. So when she enters a strange little shop staffed by a cranky classmate and a mysterious proprietor, only to buy a beat up book missing half its pages, fantasy and reality seemed to get just a little bit closer.
