Kara isn't exactly the most exceptional student at St. Rao's - she isn't the most popular, the smartest, the sportiest or even the funniest - and she's just trying to survive boarding school. That's when the first Ace shows up. When an ordinary playing card shows up in her mail with a name written on it, her first thought is why was it sent to her? 

Confused as to why she's been sent the Ace of Diamonds, Kara finds her plans for a peaceful school year disrupted when she finds herself the messenger. Even on Krypton, she was misunderstood. When she was younger and her mother asked about boys or boyfriends, Kara would always reply, "No, Mommy! I wanna have a girlfriend." Which was unheard of. Kara's feelings towards girls were punishable by death, much like some countries on Earth. So. when she was old enough to understand the risk of loving who she wanted, she suppressed her feelings and convinced herself that she loved boys. On Earth, years later, she meets someone who makes it impossible to ignore her feelings, but she has never made her feel as amazing as Lena Luthor. Lena Luthor was raised in a home where you could be beaten for simply looking at someone. She didn't bother with love or figuring out her feelings about all of her friends. It just wasn't important. When she moved away and her brother was put in jail, she assumed that she was attracted to men. She didn't know otherwise. But when she met Kara Danvers, every thought she ever had about being straight was proven wrong. This was what love felt like. Facing danger at every turn of their relationship, Lena and Kara are determined to beat the odds. A Kryptonian and a Luthor can do anything, despite their older family members' disappointment.
