Ftero lived a life that was aberrant. He was the last assassin and protected an Elite creation who was supposed to be dead. Ftero had been a trusted knight, trained troops in the military but had been reduced to a baby sitting his lover, stay-at-home kind of man. How he had gotten in this malaise is a difficult path to follow.
