"I, Sesian M. H. Grace, am the true Queen of the North, and I refuse to be silenced."
•••
Princess Sesian Grace is nothing but a frequenter of sorrow and loss. Parents stripped from her at thirteen, kingdom revoked by fifteen, and freedom stolen since maturity (sixteen), an inherited coronation seems ages away. As the unofficial "Northern Princess" with no city to house her subjects, the nomadic Sesian's life isn't her own to control. To stake her claim over her own lost icy region, she must negotiate with the enemy force that has taken it over: the Southern Empire and the Dragon King.
King Evan Carrow has had everything handed to him on a golden platter since his conception. With no notion of forgiveness or mercy, he takes what he wants and rules with the ferocity of the dragon he commands. Property, lives, women; with no end to his "birthrights", a princess incapable of raising an army to fight him for her own kingdom warrants the least possible interest or benefit on his behalf, except for one thing: her.
An inexplicable bond draws him to her, which only fuels the urge to lay his claim upon her. But centuries of rivalry and feud split the two apart, and personal secrets cut deep. If the princess wants her land, she must give up the compromise and settle for what he wants, no matter the terms, no matter the cost. Sesian and her people cannot take the brute of a war against an army or the persecution from Evan himself, and she hasn't the ability to stand up to him.
What kind of a man is the Dragon King, really? What does he want from Sesian and, much more, can she forgive herself for giving in to his demands? What kind of a woman does that make her, and can she possibly hope to save her subjects before they become extinct? They say "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger", but this time it may just be too much... and Evan may be the key to the ultimate destruction or salvation of the Northern Princess.

"You're making a mistake. Please tell me where it is and I'll leave you alone. You want to be left alone, right? Wouldn't you rather tell me where it is other than me reporting you to the guards and getting you executed? It would be much easier on you." She rambled, her soft voice leaking with desperation once again.
And as she spoke, I couldn't help but feel more shocked. Was she begging me? Seriously? This was our queen? Isn't she supposed to be in charge here, why on earth is she pleading to me? And what's with the sweet tone?
"I don't want to hurt you," she said with actual concern etched on her face. "But I will if I have to; I will if you don't say anything in five seconds."
"Do it then," I challenged, "Or are you too scared to touch me?"
