"No reason to bind me this time?" I bit out, my voice hoarse from the lack of water. I tensed-expecting the hit that would surely come, but relaxed when my face was only hit with the cool breeze.
Dorian's eyes shot to my wrists and seemed to flicker with regret. Then they went blank. Nothing. It was highly unsettling and made me even more weary of him.
"I'm afraid we've gotten off on the wrong start," he started, eyes flickering from my eyes to my wrists. I wanted to interrupt him and say that we didn't. That him and his friends slammed me to a tree, knocked me out, and kidnapped me-almost killing me in the process.
But I didn't say any of those things because I was weak. A weak little girl that needed to be cured of her weakness by Dr. Thomas. My lip curled as the memories resurfaced. Memories of my shame. Memories of my fear. This situation was no different. I'm not in control. I'm never in control. I probably wouldn't ever be.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Irena has spent all of her sixteen years of life in captivity. Subjected to Dr. Thomas's will, she can do nothing but go through with his sadistic scientist experiments. Used and abused, she finally escapes The Facility and sets off to a world she has never seen before-a world where she is the last of her kind.
The world she's beginning to know is filled with vampires whose only desire is to enslave her or use her to end the curse set on their world.
According to the prophecy, Irena is a key part in ensuring peace for all species. But in a world dominated by vampires, few would like to give up the power and most would die to keep it.
Captured by Prince Dorian, he says to trust him, but can she trust the very species that tortured her and ended her kind?
